Professional Experience
International Business Machines (IBM) 1984 - 2009
Trainer and Training Development, 1995 - 2009
Demonstrated extensive experience teaching both technical and project management topics. Taught stand-up training for project management tools to a worldwide audience. This includes a variety of IBM specific tools and Microsoft Project.
· As part of implementing CMMI compliant processes at IBM, trained project managers about standard project management processes using a variety of methods.
· The Initial wave of training included stand-up classes taught at company and customer sites throughout the world.
· Organized and ran Train-the-Trainer sessions as the scope increased and required additional personnel.
· As maturity increased so did the scope. We migrated from stand-up to remote training using teleconferences as the delivery vehicle.
· When teleconferences alone proved too costly in time and phone charges, implemented a strategy to deliver the training with a combination of PowerPoint presentations with recorded audio. This improvement:
- saved over $40K per release
- freed up subject matter experts for other key assignments
- increased flexibility and lowered impact to projects by allowing project mangers worldwide to take training as it fit into their schedule
· Created simulations using tools including Camtasia and Simulation Producer
· Created computer based training using Content Producer
· Managed the deployment and take-up of the training as well as analyzed feedback from participants and updated material. Reported results of the take-up to senior management.
Program Manager, 1995 - 1999
· Managed support for IBM’s project management tool suite for the United States, including helpdesk and a group of trainers.
· Selected by management to take training worldwide based on a successful record of delivery, expertise and leadership to deploy training to thousands of people.
Consultant and Process Change Specialist, 2001 - 2009
· Gathered and evaluated requirements using a variety of tools.
· Facilitated sessions, repeatedly demonstrating skills required to explain technical information to non-technical people.
· Coordinated cross-organization teams consolidating different processes and streamlining activities.
· Evaluated processes against the requirements for:
- SEI CMMI (Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model Integrated
- ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)
· Enhanced processes training and tools to be used by IBM and external customers to improve overall project management maturity as measured by Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model. Reaching a maturity level 3 is required to even bid on certain US government contracts.
· Led the training team supporting IBM’s move to SEI CMMI Maturity Level 5 (the highest). IBM used this to market our capabilities to take companies to higher levels of maturity. In some cases this was the deciding factor in winning commercial contracts.
· Developed, tested, and supported a variety of applications in Banking, Order Entry and Contracts applications. This includes some training in technical and business analyst aspects of SAP.
